A Day of Wonder and Discovery

We've partnered with one of the world's leading research scientists and academic specialists in whale conservation. 

With extensive experience studying whale behavior and migration Joelle is dedicated to protecting marine ecosystems through research and advocacy. 

By virtue of this partnership, we offer travelers the unique opportunity to participate in her research and observe one of the most dynamic whale populations on the planet.  She will be first to tell you: hearing whales sing is a uniquely powerful experience.

  • - Meet at San Juan del Sur's picturesque harbor as the sun paints the sky in hues of gold and pink.

    - Enjoy a traditional Nicaraguan breakfast of gallo pinto and fresh tropical fruits while Lauren briefs you on the day's adventure.

  • - Board our state-of-the-art catamaran, equipped with hydrophones to listen to whale songs.


    - As we sail out, watch for playful pods of pantropical spotted dolphins that often escort boats leaving the bay.

  • - Enter the rich waters where humpback whales from both northern and southern hemispheres converge, making Nicaragua one of the few places on Earth to witness this unique phenomenon.


    - Lauren will share fascinating insights about whale behavior, migration patterns, and conservation efforts.

  • - Navigate along the dramatic Nicaraguan coastline, marveling at towering cliffs and hidden coves.


    - Spot magnificent frigatebirds soaring overhead and maybe even catch a glimpse of the elusive resplendent quetzal in the coastal forests.

  • - Anchor in a serene bay for a gourmet lunch featuring sustainably sourced local seafood and organic produce.


    - During lunch, Lauren will introduce you to Nicaragua's unique marine ecosystem and the importance of mangrove forests.

  • - Resume whale watching, with chances to see breaching humpbacks, curious minke whales, and if we're incredibly lucky, the legendary blue whale.


    - Keep your eyes peeled for sea turtles, including the endangered hawksbill and leatherback turtles that nest on Nicaragua's beaches.

  • - As the day winds down, enjoy the magical golden hour light on the water.


    - Listen to the haunting songs of humpback whales through our hydrophones – a truly emotional experience.

  • - Return to San Juan del Sur harbor as the sun sets, painting the sky in breathtaking colors.


    - Toast to an unforgettable day with a refreshing Macuá, Nicaragua's national cocktail, as Lauren recaps the day's incredible sightings.
